Sonya Brown

SVP, Affordable Housing Management at National Church Residences

Sonya M. Brown is currently Senior Vice President of Affordable Housing Management of National Church Residences. She assumed this role July 1, 2022.

Sonya joined National Church Residences over 18 years ago, starting out as a Property Manager in 2004, before being promoted over the years to several Regional Leadership Vice President roles. Prior to this recent promotion, she served as Vice President of Property Management since April of 2020.

Her tenure with National Church Residences has included leading a team of over 800 site level employees, across 23 states and 350 communities. She has oversight of Regional Managers, Directors and Vice Presidents. Her operational expertise extends to a variety of program types, including LIHTC, market rate, PRAC, Section 8, Section 236, RAD, Combo, Housing Choice, Project Based assets, among other affordable housing disciplines.

She is a graduate of St. Louis University with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Finance and Marketing and a minor in International Business. Professionally, she serves on the Missouri Housing and Development Committee Advisory Board (MO), the boards of Heartland Affordable Housing Management (MO) Association, the National Affordable Housing Management Association (DC), and the Urban Land Institute_ Columbus, OH (advisory board).

She is a member of various other industry organizations, including, Leading Age, IREM, MoAHA, and St. Louis Apartment Association. She holds various industry accreditations including a Housing Credit Certified Professional (HCCP) designation, as well as the Specialist in Housing Credit Management (SCHM), Certified Occupancy Specialist (COS), Tax Credit Specialist (TCS), Site Based Budgeting Specialist (SBS), and Certified Manager of Maintenance (CMM).

Personally, she is also Vice Committee Chair of Finance for a local Columbus, OH based theatre group board, CATCO.

Sonya has one adult son who lives in Washington, DC, working in commercial real estate development. She is a lifelong resident of St. Louis, MO, but she recently officially relocated to the Columbus, OH area in summer 2020.
