Richard Smiley has over two decades of experience in statistical analysis and research support. Currently serving as a Statistician at NCSBN since October 2001, Richard provides statistical support to the research department. Prior experience includes a role as a Statistician at the US Census Bureau, where support was provided to the Center for Survey Research Methods. Richard also volunteered with the Peace Corps from 1992 to 1994, teaching Mathematics and Statistics in The Gambia. Earlier in the career, Richard worked as a Statistician at Amoco from 1985 to 1992. Richard holds an M.A. in Demography from Georgetown University and an M.S. in Statistics from the University of Chicago.

National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN)
The purpose of NCSBN is to provide an organization through which boards of nursing act and counsel together on matters of common interest and concern affecting the public health, safety and welfare, including the development of licensing examinations in nursing. NCSBN's programs and services include developing the NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-PN examinations, performing policy analysis and promoting uniformity in relationship to the regulation of nursing practice, disseminating data related to the licensure of nurses, conducting research pertinent to NCSBN's purpose, and serving as a forum for information exchange for members.
