Daniel O'Maley

Daniel O'Maley has a diverse and extensive work experience that spans over several organizations and roles. Daniel started their career as a Study Group Coordinator and Translator at Heifer International in 2002. From there, they worked as an Undergraduate Student Researcher at Bowdoin College, where they conducted research on foreign workers in China. Daniel then interned at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and served as an Intern for the Group of Fifty, conducting background research and preparing conference materials.

After that, Daniel served as a Research Assistant at the Progressive Policy Institute, where they conducted analysis and created presentations on IT, trade, and employment trends. Daniel also worked as a Program Assistant at the Center for International Private Enterprise, where they performed layout and publication tasks for various publications and contributed to the organization's blog.

In 2009, Daniel joined Vanderbilt University as a Graduate Researcher, where they conducted an independent study on Brazilian Internet freedom activists and their influence on Internet policy and governance. Daniel also took on other roles at Vanderbilt, including HASTAC Digital Humanities Fellow, Co-convener for the Brazilian Studies Lecture Series, Graduate Teaching Assistant, and On-site Program Director for the Office of Active Community Service (OACS).

In 2020, Daniel became the Co-Chair of the Dynamic Coalition for the Sustainability of News Media and Journalism, leading coalition engagement and overseeing the production of the coalition's annual report. Most recently, they have been working at the National Endowment for Democracy, holding various positions such as Associate Editor, Deputy Editor and Digital Policy Specialist, Senior Digital Governance Specialist, and Director of Technology and Democracy. In these roles, Daniel has been responsible for developing strategies, conducting research, writing reports, and representing the organization at high-level events.
