Melissa Klembara

Melissa Klembara currently serves as the Deputy Executive Director of the Technology Development Center at the National Energy Technology Laboratory since August 2025. Prior to this role, Melissa held the position of Director of Portfolio Strategy at the U.S. Department of Energy from January 2022 to August 2025, where responsibilities included leading the strategy and analysis for over $21 billion in clean energy demonstrations aimed at achieving significant emissions reductions. Earlier experience at the U.S. Department of Energy included serving as Chief of Staff to Deputy Assistant Secretaries focused on Renewable Power and Energy Efficiency, along with a role as Technology Manager. Melissa's career began at International Paper as a Project Engineer and continued at BCS Incorporated as a Senior Technical Analyst. Educational qualifications include a dual Master's degree in Business and Science with a focus on Renewable Energy from Heriot-Watt University and a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Maryland.
