Michael obtained their MBA in Finance and Financial Management Services from the Isenberg School of Management at UMass Amherst, attending from 2019 to 2022. Prior to this, they completed the Graduate School of Banking Degree & Leadership Certificate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 2016 to 2018, focusing on the field of banking.
In 2009, Michael earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, where they studied from 2005 to 2009. Michael also briefly attended Southwest Minnesota State University in 2004.
Michael's education journey began at Black River Falls Senior High School, where they completed their high school diploma with honors in 2004.
In addition to their formal education, Michael Backaus holds certifications in the financial industry. Michael became a Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) through the American Bankers Association in March 2016. Prior to this, they obtained the Credit Union Compliance Expert (CUCE) certification from CUNA (the Credit Union National Association) in November 2011.
