Chris Maher

Chris Maher is a Leadership Fellow (Level 3) at the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) since 2021 and serves as the Director and Professor at the Institute for Musculoskeletal Health at the University of Sydney, a position held since 2008. Additionally, Chris held the role of Visiting Professor of Musculoskeletal Sciences and Rehabilitation at the University of Oxford from 2016 to 2022, and previously directed the Musculoskeletal Division at The George Institute for Global Health between 2008 and 2017. Chris's notable past positions include Future Fellow at the Australian Research Council from 2011 to 2014 and Associate Professor at the University of Sydney from 2003 to 2007. Educational qualifications include a DMedSc in Medicine and a PhD from the University of Sydney, along with a Postgraduate Diploma in Exercise and Sports Science and a Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy from Cumberland College of Health Sciences, as well as ongoing advanced studies in Manipulative Physiotherapy at the University of Sydney.
