Tony Lawler currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer and Deputy Secretary of the Health Products Regulation Group at the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care since June 2023. Lawler is also a Professor of Health Services and Deputy Head of the School of Medicine at the University of Tasmania, a position held since February 2011. Additional roles include Board Member of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators, member of the Audit and Risk Committee and Council Member at the National Health and Medical Research Council, and Board Member at the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care. Lawler’s previous positions include Executive Committee Member of the Australian Teletrials Program and various advisory roles within AHPRA and the Australian Medical Council. Lawler holds multiple fellowships including Specialist Medical Administrator and Emergency Medicine, alongside an MBA in Health Management and a medical degree from the University of Tasmania.
