Sissy Nikolaou

Lead Geotechnical Investigator For National Construction Safety Team at National Institute of Standards and Technology

Sissy Nikolaou has a diverse work experience in the field of geotechnical and earthquake engineering. Sissy is currently working as the Lead Geotechnical Investigator for the National Construction Safety Team at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Prior to this role, they served as the Leader of the Earthquake Engineering Group at NIST.

In addition, Sissy Nikolaou has held positions at WSP USA as the Principal of Multihazards Engineering, where they led the organization's multi-hazard resilience engineering practice. Sissy also worked at MRCE as a Senior Associate and the Director of the GeoSeismic Department, where they established and directed geoseismic services and promoted earthquake awareness.

Furthermore, Sissy Nikolaou is an accomplished professional in the industry and has been appointed as the President of the ASCE Geo-Institute for the year 2023 by the Geo-Institute of ASCE.

Sissy Nikolaou holds a Diploma in Civil Engineering - Structural from the National Technical University of Athens. Sissy also has a PhD and MSc in Civil Engineering - Geotechnical / Earthquake from the University at Buffalo. Additionally, they have obtained certifications as a Board-Certified Geotechnical Engineer (D.GE) from the Academy of Geo-Professionals (AGP), a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and a Technical Fellow of Earthquake Engineering from WSP.
