Dr. Marie Geissler

Senior Researcher at National Museum Of Australia

Dr. Marie Geissler is an accomplished academic and researcher with extensive experience in Indigenous scholarship and the arts. Currently serving as an Associate Researcher at the National Museum of Australia’s Indigenous Knowledges Centre, Dr. Geissler collaborates with Margo Neale on Indigenous bark painting collections and Songlines. As a Senior Researcher at the same institution since 2016, key contributions include research for the exhibition "Songlines: Tracking the Seven Sisters" and organizing seminar programs. Dr. Geissler has also held voluntary positions such as Research Associate at the Indigenous Knowledge Forum, assisting in connecting Indigenous scholarship with cultural and corporate sectors, and serving as an Executive Committee Member of the Sydney Forum for Architecture and Design. Active in promoting Australian South Sea Islander culture through a role on the Strategy Committee of the Australian South Sea Islander National Secretariat, Dr. Geissler has led their own fine art consultancy and completed a Doctor of Philosophy in Aboriginal art history from the University of Wollongong, enhancing understanding of Arnhem Land bark painting.
