John Siddorn

Chief Executive at National Oceanography Centre

John Siddorn has a strong background in oceanography and data science. John is currently the Chief Scientist and Director of Data, Science, and Technology at the National Oceanography Centre, where they lead the development of research, data, and technology activities. Prior to this role, they were the Associate Director for the Digital Ocean division at NOC, where they focused on managing data collection and use for understanding the ocean and its impact on humans. John has also held positions at The Alan Turing Institute as Co-Director of TRIC:DT and as a Senior Research Fellow. John is an Honorary Fellow at the Met Office and has a lengthy tenure there, serving as the Head of Ocean Forecasting R&D and Science Manager. Before that, they worked as a Shelf Seas Modelling Scientist at the Met Office and as a Mathematical Modeller at Plymouth Marine Laboratory.

John Siddorn obtained a BSc in Marine Environmental Chemistry from the University of Southampton in the years 1991 to 1994. John then pursued an MSc in Applied Oceanography at Bangor University during 1997 and 1998. Recently, from 2015 to 2016, they completed a PhD (by published works) in Oceanography at Bangor University as well.
