Deputy Scientfic Engineering Manager, Head Of Sensors & Moorings at National Oceanography Centre

Paul Provost worked at the National Oceanography Centre from June 2009 onwards as the Deputy Scientific Engineering Manager and Head of Sensors & Moorings. In this role, they were responsible for project, cruise, staff, and budget management, ensuring the safe and efficient delivery of marine science support to the NERC Marine Facilities Programme. Paul also managed members of staff and budgets within NMF Sea Systems. Prior to this, Paul worked at NMF Sea Systems, NERC from May 2007 to October 2009 as an Ocean Engineering Technician.

Paul Provost earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Oceanography, Chemical and Physical from Bangor University, which they attended from 1989 to 1992. Following that, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in the same field at Edinburgh Napier University, where they studied from 1992 to 1996.

The NOC is funded by UK Research and Innovation to work on National Capability programmes, and manages on its behalf, the National Marine Equipment Pool - Europe’s largest fleet of autonomous and robotic vehicles, and two state of the art research ships RRS Discovery and RRS James Cook.
