Samuel Stanton is an experienced professional in marine biology and commercial development, currently serving as the Commercial Development Manager at the National Oceanography Centre since July 2023. Previously, Samuel held the position of Business Development Lead for Marine & Energy at NatureMetrics, where support was provided to clients seeking to utilize DNA technology in environmental assessments from June 2021 to June 2023. A notable tenure at Fugro spanned from January 2015 to May 2021, during which Samuel served as the Commercial Manager for Environmental Services and earlier as Benthic Laboratories Manager, overseeing technical and commercial operations. Prior to this, at Fugro EMU Limited, Samuel worked as the Commercial Laboratories Manager and Senior Marine Ecologist, specializing in polychaetes and marine ecology. Samuel’s academic credentials include a PhD and a BS in Marine Biology from the University of Portsmouth.

The National Oceanography Centre is an independent self-governing organisation - a charitable company limited by guarantee. The NOC is funded by UK Research and Innovation to work on National Capability programmes, and manages on its behalf, the National Marine Equipment Pool - Europe’s largest fleet of autonomous and robotic vehicles, and two state of the art research ships RRS Discovery and RRS James Cook. The NOC has two sites, Southampton and Liverpool, and employs around 650 staff. We are co-located at both sites with leading UK Universities, giving us a unique position in UK marine research.
