Derek Branstrom

Lead Instructor at NATIONAL OUTDOOR LEADERSHIP SCHOOL

Derek Branstrom has a diverse work experience in outdoor leadership and education. Derek worked as an Associate Professor and Director of Outdoor Leadership at Colorado Christian University since 2015. Prior to that, they served as a Lead Instructor for NOLS Wilderness Medicine starting in 2011. From 1995 to 2015, Derek worked as a Teacher for Jeffco Public Schools in Colorado. Derek also has experience as an Instructor for Solid Rock Outdoor Ministries (SROM) from 2013 to 2015 and as a Lead Instructor for Outward Bound USA from 2002 to 2012.

Derek Branstrom holds a Master's degree in Sport Administration from the University of Northern Colorado, which they obtained from 2001 to 2003. Derek also has a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) in Math Education from the University of Wyoming, where they studied from 1990 to 1994. In addition to their academic achievements, Derek has obtained several certifications including a Pro 1 Certificate from the American Avalanche Institute in 2019, an Apprentice Rock Guide certification from the American Mountain Guides Association in 2017, and a Wilderness/Remote Location First Aid certification from NOLS Wilderness Medicine in 2001.
