Matthew Stewart

Principal Engineer at NATIONAL PHYSICAL LABORATORY LIMITED

Matthew Stewart has significant work experience in the field of optical system design and characterization. Matthew began their career at Silanna Semiconductor Pty Ltd as a Photonic Characterization Engineer, where they focused on III-N materials and light-emitting-diode devices. During their time there, they designed and built bespoke characterization instrumentation. In 2016, they joined Elcometer as an Optical Design Specialist. In this role, they specialized in optical design. Since 2018, Matthew has been employed at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), where they started as a Senior Engineer and later became a Principal Engineer. At NPL, they provide optical system design expertise and conducts hands-on optical bench work for the delivery of high precision bespoke measurement instrumentation for optical metrology applications.

Matthew Stewart attended the University of Sydney from 2004 to 2009, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree with a focus on Mathematics (Pure) and Physics. In 2010 and 2011, they furthered their education at the same institution, obtaining a Master of Photonics and Optical Science (CUDOS) with a specialization in Photonics.
