Team Lead - Commercial Vehicle Technologies at National Renewable Energy Laboratory

Andrew Kotz is a highly experienced professional in the field of mechanical engineering, specializing in transportation decarbonization. Currently serving as Team Lead for Commercial Vehicle Technologies at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory since January 2017, Andrew leads research initiatives focused on the decarbonization of various transportation modes and manages a diverse team of engineers and interns. Andrew’s previous roles include Senior Research Engineer and Principal Investigator at Exergi Predictive, with a strong emphasis on electrification and emissions reductions in commercial vehicles. Andrew holds a Ph.D. and a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota, along with a Bachelor’s degree from Stevens Institute of Technology. Andrew's work has resulted in significant contributions to high-impact publications, funding proposals exceeding $10 million, and an extensive portfolio of projects aimed at advancing the energy efficiency of medium and heavy vehicles.
