Rory Monaghan

Rory Monaghan is a Professor in Energy Systems Engineering at the University of Galway, where leadership of the Erin Research Group focuses on energy system modeling, including hydrogen, renewable gases, and carbon capture. Rory also serves as Head of Mechanical Engineering, overseeing the discipline's operations, and as Programme Director for Energy Systems Engineering, contributing to significant curriculum development for both Bachelor's and Master's programs. Prior roles include Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer and Energy Consultant, with a strong research background established through a PhD and MSc from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and earlier professional experiences in energy technology analysis and independent consultancy. Currently a Co-Principal Investigator at the MaREI Research Centre, Rory has dedicated over a decade to advancing energy systems research and education.
