James Fowler

James Fowler is the Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Nationwide. James has over 25 years of experience in the technology industry, including stints at GE Capital and JPMorgan Chase.

At GE Capital, James was responsible for all technology related services used to originate, underwrite and operate the $350B portfolio of GE Capital. James managed a large annual budget, 4,400 global employees and 9,000+ contractors. James was charged by Senior Leadership Team to oversee multi year program to simplify and modernize the transactional systems used to originate, underwrite and operate $350B worth of assets.

James funded and staffed agile development teams (User Experience, software development, DevOps and mobility) to deliver solutions using the FastWorks methodology. James centralized team of 200+ in two technology centers located in Detroit, MI and New Orleans, LA. James functionalized the 4,400 member technology organization across GE Capital. James eliminated P&L specific teams and redundant work. James developed strategy to move from over 70% outsourced to less than 50% outsourced in three years while keeping costs flat.

At JPMorgan Chase, James was the Chief Information Officer for Consumer & Community Banking. James was responsible for all technology for consumer businesses including retail banking, credit cards, mortgage banking, auto finance and home equity lending. James managed a $9B annual budget, 10,000+ global employees and 20,000+ contractors.

James has a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan and a MBA from Harvard Business School.

James Fowler completed a B.S. in Business Administration with a focus in MIS and Marketing from Miami University. James then went on to complete a Masters in Business Administration and Management, General from Xavier University.
