Karsten Zengler

Co-Founder at Native Microbials, Inc.

Karsten Zengler has extensive experience in the academic and scientific field. Karsten is currently a Professor at the University of California San Diego, where they have been working since 2010. Before becoming a Professor, Karsten held the position of Associate Professor at the same institution from 2015 to 2019. Prior to that, they were a Research Scientist at the University of California San Diego from 2010 to 2015.

In addition to their work at the University of California San Diego, Karsten has also been involved in entrepreneurial ventures. Karsten co-founded Ascus Biosciences in 2015 and General Automation Lab Technologies, Inc in 2014.

Karsten has also held academic positions at other institutions. Karsten was an Adjunct Professor at the University of Iceland from 2013 to 2018 and a Senior Scientist at the Technical University of Denmark from 2011 to 2015.

Earlier in their career, Karsten worked as a Staff Scientist at Diversa from 2000 to 2005. Karsten began their scientific career as a PhD Student at the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology from 1996 to 1999.

Karsten Zengler obtained a Master's degree from The University of Göttingen, where they studied from 1992 to 1996. Karsten then pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree at the Max-Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology/University Bremen, completing their studies from 1996 to 1999.
