Tina Mitchell

Tina Mitchell is an accomplished executive with extensive experience in leadership and strategy within various sectors. Currently serving as Chief Executive and Chief Strategy Officer at the Earthquake Commission (EQC) since July 2020, Tina has held senior roles including Leader and Problem Solver in a consulting capacity and Deputy Banking Ombudsman at the Banking Ombudsman Scheme (NZ). Previous positions include various senior leadership roles at ACC New Zealand and prominent legal positions at McBride Davenport James, Ministry of Health New Zealand, and the Office of the Health and Disability Commissioner. Tina holds a Practising Certificate from the New Zealand Law Society, a GAICD from the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and has participated in the Breakthrough Leaders Programme with Global Women. Academic qualifications include an LLB (Hons) and BA from the University of Canterbury.

The Natural Hazards Commission Toka Tu Ake is New Zealand’s unique response to its geological environment. NHC Toka Tū Ake provides insurance cover for damage to residential property caused by earthquakes, landslips, volcanic eruptions, hydrothermal activity and tsunamis. All New Zealanders with home and/or contents insurance automatically receive NHCover. Other key functions include: Administering the Natural Disaster Fund, facilitating and supporting research to help build understanding of natural disasters and how to mitigate damage, and implementing education initiatives using school programmes, advertising and collateral.
