Wendy Saunders is an accomplished professional in land use planning and natural hazards management, currently serving as Principal Advisor and Champion of Land Use Planning at the Natural Hazards Commission Toka Tū Ake since November 2020. With extensive experience spanning over 17 years at GNS Science as a social scientist and natural hazards planner, Wendy provides critical guidance on utilizing land use planning to mitigate risks associated with natural hazards. Previous roles include Resource Management Planner at Opus International Consultants Limited and Hazard & Emergency Management Officer at Greater Wellington Regional Council. Wendy holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Land Use Planning and Management/Development from Massey University and a Masters of Social Science in Geography & Earth Science from The University of Waikato.
