Robert Orr

Robert Orr is an experienced leader with extensive involvement in various sectors, particularly in natural products and ocean-related ventures. Currently serving as Board Chair and Chair of the Investment Committee at Natural Products Canada Ventures since September 2020, Robert holds multiple key roles, including Managing Director at Cuna del Mar LP since May 2012 and Director and Co-founding Member at Canada's Ocean Supercluster since June 2017. Additionally, Robert has been Chair of Natural Products Canada since March 2015 and Chair of The Community Foundation of Nova Scotia since January 2016. As President and Owner of T.T. Inc Consulting since January 2012, Robert also boasts a notable prior tenure as President, CEO, and Chairman of Ocean Nutrition Canada Ltd from October 1996 to September 2011.

WHO ARE WE? NPC is a not for profit focused on Canadian natural product innovations that can replace synthetic products to benefit people, animals and the planet. We provide a one-stop shop for strategic insights, programs and services to anyone looking to participate in Canada’s natural product industry. WHAT ARE NATURAL PRODUCTS? We refer to natural products as those that can replace synthetic materials. Biologically-based solutions – highly-innovative products or technologies to leverage or enhance the use of naturally-occurring molecules. These innovations can be applied to a range of industries, including: food production & value-added agriculture; bioproducts & sustainability; human nutrition, health & wellness; animal health & nutrition; and water & waste management. Check out our website for great examples of what we mean. WHAT DO WE DO? All of our efforts are focused on building and supporting Canada’s Natural Product Innovation Cluster–a strategic community of SMEs, research institutes, corporations, investors, government departments, and service providers who support the development & commercialization of the naturally-derived products & technologies described above. HOW DO WE DO IT? 1. We provide strategic Advisory Services & Commercialization Programs to help high-potential Canadian innovations advance to market. 2. We help international & Canadian corporations and investors connect with well-developed, high-potential Canadian innovations. This includes customer scouting, personal introductions, events, reports and more. 3. We leverage our Investment Fund to help develop & de-risk promising Canadian opportunities. To date, our portfolio includes 13 investments and two exits. BACKGROUND AND INFO Established in 2016 through the Networks of Centres of Excellence, we work closely with our node partners: PEI BioAlliance; Institute for Nutrition and Functional Food; University of Guelph; Bioscience Association Manitoba; Ag-West Bio; and BioAlberta.
