Chief Technology Officer at Nature Footage

Dan Baron has a long and varied work experience. Dan started their career in 1993 as an Environmental Consultant at Wetlands Research Associates. In 1995, they joined Sea Studios Foundation as a Post Production Supervisor, Producer and Editor, where they produced and edited 250+ videos at prominent museum installations around the world. In 1998, they became a Multimedia Instructor at the Monterey Academy of Oceanographic Science, where they taught classes of 60+ students how to conduct research, design interactive multimedia programs, and build hosted websites for school projects. In 2001, they became the Chief Technology Officer at NatureFootage, where they managed $1M+ in technology contracts with 4 programming teams and deployed a hybrid on-premise/cloud infrastructure with petabytes of video storage. In 2018, they joined FishWise as the Director of Technology, where they drove the implementation of a real-time data sync with a seafood traceability platform, stored data on a highly scalable AWS database, and API integration with Global Fishing Watch to assess vessel activity for Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing activity and potential human rights violations.

Dan Baron obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology/Biological Sciences, General from California State University - East Bay in 1992. Dan then went on to earn a Master of Science in Marine Biology and Wetlands Ecology from the same university in 1994. Prior to that, they attended World College West from 1987 to 1989, studying International/Global Studies.
