Afonso Amaral

Afonso Amaral is an experienced air traffic controller student at NAV PORTUGAL EPE since November 2021. Afonso has been a member of the Observatório de Prospectiva da Engenharia e da Tecnologia since January 2021 and served as a research fellow at Instituto Superior Técnico from January 2020 to June 2022, contributing to the SMARKETCITY project focused on e-commerce and public e-procurement. Additionally, Afonso produced documentation for a funding application during the FCT 2020 R&D funding round and assisted in an urban context evaluation project for UNESCO’s World Heritage site, Pena Palace, where GIS data analysis was a key responsibility. Previous roles include coordinating the conference department at Fórum Civil - IST, where Afonso led a team to organize annual lectures and secured sponsorships. An engineering intern at AECOM in 2017, Afonso worked on various infrastructure projects, providing research and value engineering solutions. Afonso holds a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico and a Master of Science in the same field from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
