Kanat Baigarin

Chief Officer For Sustainable Development at Nazarbayev University

Kanat Baigarin is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in sustainable development, innovation, and research. Currently serving as the Chief Officer for Sustainable Development and Advisor to the President at Nazarbayev University since December 2014, Kanat previously held the position of Vice President for Innovation & Research at the same institution. Prior to this, Kanat was the General Director of NURIS from 2011 to 2014 and served various roles in the Kazakh government, including National Focal Point for the UNFCCC from 1999 to 2013. Educational qualifications include a PhD in Physics and Chemistry of Plasma from the Institute of Atomic Energy after Kurchatov, and participation in the LEAD Program focused on Sustainable Development. With a strong background in energy research and climate change, Kanat has also contributed as an international consultant and project specialist in various capacities.
