Dr. Susan Haynes Little

Dr. Susan Haynes Little has extensive work experience in the field of public health and nursing. Dr. Susan Haynes has served as the Chief Public Health Nurse & Branch Head for the NC Department of Health and Human Services since October 2019. Prior to this, they held various roles within the department, including Manager of Public Health Nursing & Professional Development Unit and Director of Continuing Nursing Education. Dr. Susan Haynes also worked as a Regional Public Health Nurse Consultant and Health Choice Nurse Analyst.

Dr. Little has also worked as the Chief Public Health Nurse and Branch Head for the NC Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Public Health. Dr. Susan Haynes has served as a Consulting Associate in Public Health at Duke University School of Nursing since 2017.

Before their work in the government and educational settings, Dr. Little gained experience in the community. Dr. Susan Haynes was a Supervisor for Nurse-Family Partnership and a Public Health Nurse specializing in maternal-child health, high-risk pregnancy, and postpartum care in Wake County. Dr. Susan Haynes also worked as an HIV Clinic Nurse and a Health Degreed Volunteer for the Peace Corps.

Beyond their public health work, Dr. Little has pursued personal interests, such as hiking the Appalachian Trail and sailing in a cruiser. Dr. Susan Haynes has also been involved in managing a resort and marina.

Dr. Susan Haynes Little, DNP, RN, CPHN, PHNA-BC, CPH, FAAN completed their Baccalaureate in Nursing at the University of North Carolina Wilmington in 1996. Dr. Susan Haynes then pursued a Master's degree in Nursing focused on Community and Public Health Systems and Populations at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte from 2007 to 2011. In 2009, they also attended the Maternal and Child Health Public Health Leadership Institute at the Gillings School of Public Health, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a Fellow. Dr. Susan Haynes'seducational journey culminated in obtaining a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Duke University from 2015 to 2017.
