Lisa Stifler

Lisa Stifler is an accomplished legal and policy expert currently serving as Chief of Staff and General Counsel for the North Carolina General Assembly since January 2025, after previously holding the position of Deputy Chief of Staff and General Counsel from November 2021 to October 2024. Stifler's extensive experience includes a significant tenure at the Center for Responsible Lending from February 2012 to November 2021, where roles included Vice President and Director of State Policy, Deputy Director of State Policy, Senior Policy Counsel, and Policy Counsel. Earlier positions include Interim Public Interest Career Counselor at UNC School of Law, Research Associate & Consultant at the UNC School of Government, Law Clerk at the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, and AmeriCorps Volunteer with Public Allies North Carolina. Stifler holds a J.D. with honors from the University of North Carolina School of Law, a Master of Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a Bachelor of Arts in English and African American Studies from Middlebury College.
