Star Tavares has a long and varied career in writing and communications. Since 2011, they have been self-employed as an award-winning fiction writer and screenwriter, a bestselling popular fiction author, and a freelance ghostwriter, fiction editor, and content writer. Star has also held various roles at organizations such as The New York Times, Huffington Post, Chuckle Duck, nDash, Thrive Global, HarperCollins Publishers, DoubleCheck Research, and Clark Strategic Communications (Dorie Clark). In 2022, Tavares was published in The New York Times' "Tiny Love Stories" as a freelance contributor. Her awards and recognitions include being a quarter-finalist (with Jake Tavares) in the 2020 ScreenCraft TV Pilot Script Competition, a semi-finalist in the Fall 2019 WeScreenplay Diverse Voices Contest, and a finalist in the Narrative Magazine Fall 2012 Story Contest.

Star Tavares began their education at Leicester High School for Girls, where they studied French Language and Literature from 1988 to 1992. Star then attended the University of Exeter, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in English including Medieval Studies from 1992 to 1995. After this, they completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Education at the University of Cambridge from 1995 to 1996. Finally, they attended The Open University and earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Psychology from 2000 to 2004.
