Youngjoo Kim

Lead Engineer at Nearthlab

Youngjoo Kim has a diverse work experience in the field of aerospace engineering and research. Starting in 2008, Kim served as the Point of Contact in South Korea for the Space Generation Advisory Council. In 2018, Kim held two postdoctoral research associate positions, one at KAIST where they managed UAV-related projects and wrote a tutorial on Kalman filter, and the other at The University of Sheffield where they pioneered the application of CapsNet to traffic prediction problems. From 2019 to 2021, Kim worked as the Lead Autonomy Scientist at Sevendof, focusing on autonomous flight capabilities for hybrid electric drones. Currently, Kim is the Principal Aerospace Engineer at Nearthlab, where they are developing and integrating mission management and flight control algorithms for autonomous wind turbine inspections on iOS and Android platforms.

Youngjoo Kim earned a Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace Engineering and Computer Science from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology from 2006 to 2011. Youngjoo then pursued a Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering from 2011 to 2013 at the same institution. Finally, they completed their education with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Aerospace Engineering from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology from 2013 to 2018.
