Sander Mertens is a medical doctor and PhD candidate focused on health IT innovation and medical terminology. They completed their Master of Science in Medicine at Universiteit Utrecht and undertook their doctoral research at Universiteit Twente, exploring advances in modern upper-GI surgery. Sander has extensive experience as a medical terminologist and project lead, contributing to significant projects like the translation of SNOMED concepts into Dutch and the implementation of the National Terminology Server. Currently, they serve as the product owner for MediKIT at Nedap and continue to volunteer in organizing sailing competitions.
