Michael Mitchell

Michael Mitchell has over 39 years of work experience in the medical field. Michael currently serves as the Associate Medical Director at Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island since March 2020. Prior to that, they worked for Hawthorn Medical Associates for 15 years as a Physician, specializing in urgent care. From 2010 to 2011, they were a Member of the Board of Directors at Mercy Medical Center. Michael was also a practicing partner at Florence Diagnostics Associates, a non-profit hospital system, from 2005 to 2011. During their career, they have held various roles including Medical Director of the Hospice Program at Visiting Nurse Fairhaven and Internal Medicine Physician at Southcoast Primary Care. Michael started their career in the medical field as a Hospital Corpsman in the US Navy from 1981 to 1987.

Michael Mitchell completed their education with a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Technology/Technologist from U-Mass Dartmouth between 1993 and 1996. Michael then pursued further education at the University of Mass Medical School from 1996 to 2000, where they earned their Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. Additionally, they have obtained certifications including a Massachusetts Medical License from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, a Rhode Island Medical License from the Rhode Island Department of State, and a South Carolina Medical License from the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation.
