Bernie Rice is the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Senior Vice President (SVP). He joined Nemours in 1999 and is based in Jacksonville, Florida. He was named CIO in 2008 and is responsible for the leadership and strategic direction of Information Systems supporting Nemours clinical operations in six states and policy and prevention work in 25 states.
His computing and technology experience has enabled Nemours to advance its mission and realize its strategic destination by leveraging its investment in technology. Bernie has helped build Nemours into an award-winning organization most recently achieving HIMSS Stage 7 for both inpatient and ambulatory operations. Nemours has also been continually recognized as a Most Wired organization. Prior to joining Nemours, he served in the United States Air Force and as an Information Systems Manager with Anheuser-Busch, Inc.
A native of Jacksonville, Florida, Bernie attended the University of North Florida where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. In addition, he has achieved the Certified Healthcare CIO (CHCIO) certification from the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) where he is a member. In addition to CHIME, he is also a member of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS).
