Valerie Montgomery Rice

Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice provides a valuable combination of experience at the highest levels of patient care and medical research, as well as organizational management and public health policy. The sixth president of Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) and the first woman to lead the free-standing medical institution, Dr. Montgomery Rice serves as both the president and dean. A renowned infertility specialist and researcher, she most recently served as dean and executive vice president of MSM, where she served since 2011.

Prior to MSM, she served as dean of the School of Medicine and senior vice president of health affairs at Meharry Medical College where she founded and directed the Center for Women’s Health Research, one of the nation’s first research centers devoted to studying diseases that disproportionately impact women of color.

Dedicated to the creation and advancement of health equity, she brings a unique understanding of women and children’s health issues to the Nemours Board. Dr. Montgomery Rice holds membership in many organizations and boards such as the: National Academy of Medicine, National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences, board of directors for Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine, National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities, and Office of Research on Women’s Health/National Institutes of Health advisory councils, Society for Women’s Health Research Board, March of Dimes board, Association of American Medical Colleges Council of Deans Administrative board, and Consultant, FDA Advisory Committee for Reproductive Health Drugs.
