Melanie Jones has a diverse work experience in the field of emergency communications and law enforcement. Melanie is currently serving as the Second Vice President at NENA: The 9-1-1 Association. Prior to that, they held the position of Executive Director at Guilford Metro 911. Melanie has also worked as an Operations Manager, Communications Supervisor, and Communications Specialist at Guilford Metro 911. Melanie has presented at national conferences organized by National NENA in 2019 and 2017. Additionally, they served as a Lieutenant at the Guilford County Sheriff's Office (Reserves) from 1999 to 2013 and held various roles including Administrative Sergeant and Deputy Sheriff at the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office from 1988 to 1998.
Melanie Jones, RPL, ENP, CPE, CMCP has completed their education journey with a variety of qualifications. Melanie first attended Rockingham County High School where they obtained their High School Diploma in 1984. Later, they pursued their higher education at Rockingham Community College and earned an Associate of Arts and Sciences (AAS) degree in Law Enforcement Technology in 1994. Additionally, they briefly attended Appalachian State University in 1984-1985. Eventually, they enrolled at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and though the degree and field of study are not specified, they attended from 2011-2016.
Melanie's educational achievements are complemented by a range of certifications. Melanie possesses the following FEMA certifications: NIMS ICS-400 ICS (obtained in October 2014), IS-00704 NIMS Communications and Information Management (obtained in July 2013), NIMS 300 ICS (obtained in July 2010), IS-00200 ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents (obtained in April 2007), NIMS ICS-100 (obtained in November 2005), and IS-00700 National Incident Management System (NIMS) an Introduction (obtained in June 2005). Furthermore, they hold Emergency Fire Dispatcher Certification (EFD) and Emergency Medical Dispatcher Certification (EMD) obtained from the International Academy of Emergency Dispatch in March 1999. Melanie also possesses an Advanced Law Enforcement Certification from the NC Sheriff's Education and Training Standards Commission, acquired in September 1997. Additionally, they acquired the registered Public Safety Leader (RPL) designation from APCO Insurance in April 2018.
