Banita Gurung

Consultant Pathologist at Nepal Cancer Hospital and Research Center

Dr. Gurung completed MD from St. Petersburg State Medical Academy, St. Petersburg, Russia in the year 2001 and earned her master’s degree in Pathology from BPKIHS, Dharan. She has experience of more than 9 years in this field of diagnosing pathological conditions including cancer. She is trained in Onco-Pathology from Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre, New Delhi and has expertise in frozen section diagnosis- an essential procedure for rapid diagnosis and margin determination during operation when patient is still in the operating table. She was posted at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi for immunohistochemistry and molecular diagnostics.

She coordinates the department at present. She is Accreditation coordinator of quality management of lab as per ISO 15189; member of Hospital Research Board and member secretory of Infection Prevention and Control team of NCHRC and has been playing a vital role in ongoing COVID -19 pandemic.

She has been involved in research and has published many scientific articles in the field of Pathology and infection prevention and control. She is a life member of the Association of Clinical Pathologists of Nepal (ACPN) and a member of the International Association of Pathologists (IAP). She has an experience of more than 12 years of faculty member at different medical institutions and has been teaching Pathology and Medical lab Technology.
