Rupert Lewis currently serves as the Deputy Executive Chair at the Natural Environment Research Council, a position held since April 2025. Prior to this role, Rupert Lewis was the Chief Science Policy Officer at The Royal Society from November 2019 to April 2025, where responsibilities included supporting scientific excellence and its application for societal benefit. Previous roles included Deputy Director positions at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and Defra, where contributions ranged from business risk assessment to climate adaptation policy. Rupert Lewis holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics and a BSc in Marine Biology, both from the University of Liverpool.
