Jacky Smith is a Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the University of Manchester and an Honorary Consultant at the University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust.
She has more than 15 years of experience in clinical trials assessing novel therapies for cough and also leads a specialist cough service. She graduated in Medicine from Manchester University in 1992, then completed clinical training in General/Respiratory Medicine and obtained a PhD in the ‘Measurement of Cough’. In collaboration with Vitalograph Ltd, she and her research team have been responsible for the development of an ambulatory cough monitoring system, that has changed the standards by which new cough treatments are evaluated. The application of this technology in clinical trials is identifying new efficacious therapies.
