Akilah Laster

Akilah Laster has a diverse work experience across various industries. Akilah currently serves as the Head of Content at NESTRE Health and Performance since July 2021. Prior to this, they worked as the Director of Communications for the Office of the Vice Provost of Research & Scholarship at the University of Miami from November 2021 to May 2022. Before that, they were the Assistant Media Relations Director for Athletics at the University of Tennessee from August 2019 to March 2021.

Akilah also held the position of Assistant Director of Athletics Communications at the University of California, Berkeley from July 2016 to August 2019. Akilah gained experience in communications as the Communications Coordinator at Dibia Athletic Development from June 2012 to April 2017.

In their earlier career, they worked as an Athletics Diversity Council Graduate Assistant at the University of Oklahoma from August 2014 to June 2016 and as a Freelance Writer/Radio Show Assistant for South Florida High School Sports from January 2013 to July 2014. Akilah also worked as a Language Arts Teacher at Miami-Dade County Public Schools from January 2008 to June 2014.

Furthermore, they gained freelance writing experience at the Miami Herald Media Company from August 2011 to February 2014. Akilah also interned as a Communications Assistant at the Orange Bowl Committee from November 2012 to January 2014.

Akilah Laster pursued their education at the University of Miami from 2003 to 2007, where they obtained a Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism. Subsequently, from 2014 to 2016, Akilah attended the University of Oklahoma, where they achieved a Master of Education (M.Ed.) with a field of study in Intercollegiate Athletic Administration.
