As the founder of Occam's Beard, Barbara explores the interpretation of scientific data, emphasizing the distinction between correlation and causation. Prior experience includes serving as a Subject Specialist in Science at Utrecht University, where Barbara supported scientists in publishing code and software, and as an instructor at Mad Science Nederland, providing science education for young learners. Barbara's academic background features a PhD in Evolutionary Biology from Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência/Universidade Nova de Lisboa, along with multiple degrees in Biology and associated disciplines from Leiden University and the University of Galway.

Netherlands eScience Center
The Netherlands eScience Center is the national center of excellence for the development and application of research software to advance academic research. We are convinced that research in every academic discipline can be improved by taking advantage of available digital technology. We take a multidisciplinary approach, combining our deep knowledge of both academic research and software development to help define and solve research challenges. We share our ideas and the tools we develop. Together with a wide range of partner organizations, we advance not just our research projects, but the state of academic research in general. The eScience Center is a joint initiative of the Dutch national research council (NWO) and the Dutch organisation for ICT in education and research (SURF).
