Prior to this role, Cheung worked at INVISION Architecture from April 2009 to December 2013, along with previous positions at BNIM Architects in 2008 and HLKB Architecture between June 2000 and April 2008. Cheung holds a Master of Science in Architectural Studies and a Bachelor of Architecture, both earned from Iowa State University, with the master's degree completed between 1998 and 2000 and the bachelor's degree from 1992 to 1998.
