Meliz Sezan has a diverse work experience. Meliz began their career in 2008 as an intern at Sharp Laboratories of America Inc. From 2010 to 2014, they worked as an undergraduate researcher and lab assistant/lab manager at the Monnat Lab. From 2014 to 2015, they were a research intern at the UC Santa Cruz Haussler Lab, where they worked on a project involving introducing loss of function mutations in the human NOTCH2NL gene in human embryonic stem cells, using the CRISPR gene editing method. Meliz has experience in human and mouse stem cell culture, constructing CRISPR constructs and designing RNA guides and DNA primers, fluorescent microscopy, PCR, Gel Electrophoresis, Transfection, Topo Cloning, Sequencing Analysis, and isolating gDNA, Plasmid DNA, and purifying DNA. From 2015 to present, they have worked as a Senior Research Associate and Research Associate I at Neurona Therapeutics.
Meliz Sezan completed their high school education at Camas High School from 2004 to 2008. Meliz then went on to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Cellular, Molecular & Developmental Biology BS at the University of Washington from 2008 to 2012. Afterwards, they earned their Master's Degree in Stem Cell Biology MA at San Jose State University from 2013 to 2015.
