Avner Kornfeld

Principal ASIC Design Lead - R&D at Neuspera Medical

Avner Kornfeld has over 30 years of work experience in the engineering field. Avner began their career in 1986 as a Faculty Member, Lecturer, and Researcher at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology in the Department of Electrical Engineering. During their time there, they conducted research in photovoltaic III-V and II-IV sensors to silicon signal processing interface circuits working at cryogenic temperatures, analog signal processing, and random flicker noise in electronic devices. Avner also taught undergraduate and graduate courses in solid state devices, linear electronic circuits, analog VLSI systems, switching circuits, Noise in Electrical Devices, and Semiconductor Technology.

In 1992, Kornfeld joined Intel Corporation as a Staff Component Engineer in the Intel Communication Group in Haifa, Israel. In this role, they owned and designed the transmitter module of Intel’s 100/10 Mbps Fast Ethernet Transceiver chip used in hundreds of million NIC cards and networking switches. Avner also originated a novel circuit solution of finite impulse response programmable differential current mode transmitter.

Kornfeld was promoted to Senior Staff Design Component Engineer in 1997 and Principal Engineer in 2004. In these roles, they were the owner and designer of digital temperature sensor circuits (DTS), bandgap and sub-bandgap voltage references, current steering and sigma-delta ADCs. Avner also originated analog circuit techniques and transistor stacking to mitigate FINFET analog scaling restrictions.

In 2016, Kornfeld joined Tyfone, Inc. as a Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff in Portland, OR. Here, they designed an analog front end of RFID dielet for the DARPA / Shield counterfeit program and expanded the design for wireless range increase from 1 mm to 15 cm by innovative reader and dielet antenna design. Avner also architected a smart card power management integration scheme with more than 25% BOM cost saving, and area saving that can reduce power by 15%.

Kornfeld then joined BIOTRONIK in 2018 as a Systems-HW engineer. Avner is currently employed at Neuspera Medical Inc. as the Principal ASIC Design Lead - R&D.

Avner Kornfeld obtained a Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology. Avner also holds a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Microelectronics, CCD, Test chip design from the same institution, as well as a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Electrical Engineering.
