Mary Sullivan Smith

SVP, COO & Chief Nursing Officer at New England Baptist Hospital

Mary Sullivan Smith, MS, RN is an accomplished healthcare executive with over 30 years of progressive clinical leadership experience. She joined the staff of NEBH in 2009. She was appointed Chief Nursing Officer in 2014 and subsequently Chief Operating Officer in 2015. She serves on the NEBH Board of Trustees as a voting member.

Prior to joining New England Baptist Hospital, Mary was Vice President, Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer at Tufts Medical Center. Mary holds a Master of Science in Health Services Administration from Lesley University, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Massachusetts, Boston and a diploma in Nursing from the New England Baptist Hospital School of Nursing. She is a doctoral student at the MGH Institute of Health Professions.

Mary led the organization to achieve ANCC Magnet Recognition in 2019. She is passionate about creating an environment of high reliability. Excellence in patient care delivery and patient experience are the cornerstones of her practice.

She is a member of the American Organization of Nurse Leaders, the American Nurses Association, the Organization of Nurse Leaders, MA, RI, NH, VT, CT, and the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society.
