Sanjay Kulkarni has extensive work experience in the field of surgery and transplantation. sanjay began their career at the University of Chicago, where they worked as a Research Fellow from July 1997 to June 1999. sanjay then became a General Surgery Resident from July 1995 to June 2002, and later served as a Clinical Instructor/Fellow from July 2002 to June 2004.

In 2004, Sanjay joined Yale University School of Medicine as a Professor of Surgery & Medicine. sanjay held various roles at Yale, including Surgical Director of Kidney Transplantation from May 2007 onwards. In July 2011, they became an Associate Professor of Surgery & Medicine, and they will be transitioning from this role in June 2022. Sanjay also served as the Executive Director of Clinical Continuity & Integration at Yale New Haven Hospital, starting from July 2021.

Additionally, Sanjay worked at New England Donor Services as a Medical Director from March 2018 till present.

In 1992 and 1993, they studied Transplant Immunology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Later, from 2002 to 2004, they pursued further education at the University of Chicago, obtaining a degree in Clinical Research Training (CRTP). Finally, from 2016 to 2018, they attended the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and completed a Master's in Healthcare Management (MHCM).
