Chris Gibson

Christopher Gibson is a Professor of Law at Suffolk University Law School in Boston, and Director of the School’s ADR Program and its Business Law and Financial Services Concentration. Chris is an active arbitrator and mediator, with more than 25 years of experience serving as arbitrator, mediator and counsel in institutional, ad hoc and other international and domestic proceedings involving a wide variety of commercial, technology, intellectual property, life sciences (pharmaceuticals), energy and other matters. He has accepted over 300 appointments as a single, presiding and panel arbitrator, as well as emergency arbitrator. He is on the panels of leading arbitration institutions: AAA Commercial Panel, Large and Complex Cases; ICDR International Panel; International Chamber of Commerce; Swedish Chamber of Commerce; Silicon Valley Arbitration and Mediation Center’s 2021 Tech List; and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). He is certified by WIPO to mediate IP disputes. Chris was previously a partner in the London office of Steptoe & Johnson, and he also practiced with Pillsbury in its San Francisco and Silicon Valley offices. He was a legal counsel at WIPO’s Arbitration and Mediation Center in Geneva. He has also served as Chair of the Boston Bar Association’s International Law Section; Chair of the Intellectual Property Law Section of the American Society of International Law; and Vice-Chair of the Academic Council of the Institute of Transnational Arbitration. Chris is on the Advisory Board of the Boston International Arbitration Council. He is a founder and Co-Director of the Foreign Direct Investment International Moot Competition (FDImoot.org), which focuses on investor-State arbitration. He holds his JD from Berkeley Law, University of California, MPP from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government, and BA from the University of Chicago.
