Lara Gonzalez is a dynamic arts educator and co-founder of Marafanyi Drum, Dance & Song, where Lara serves as Artistic Director and Lead Teaching Artist since January 2005. With a mission to share the transformative powers of the arts, Lara has performed alongside notable artists across various genres, highlighting a strong musical talent. In addition to work with Marafanyi, Lara has held teaching roles at institutions including Ben Samuels Children’s Center and Allies, Inc., focusing on arts education for diverse populations. Experience at The Arc of Bergen and Passaic Counties further emphasizes a commitment to supporting individuals with developmental disabilities. Lara has also contributed as a Professional Development Facilitator and Teaching Artist at New Jersey Performing Arts Center, enhancing educational experiences for students. Previous involvement with organizations like Community Access to the Arts and Creative Heartwork demonstrates a long-standing dedication to using the arts as a means for healing and empowerment. Lara holds a Bachelor of Arts in Art History and Studio Art from Fordham University.
