Valanda "Val" Nelson, MPA, is an experienced professional with a diverse background in human resources, program management, and substance abuse recovery support. Since July 2016, Val has held various roles at New River Valley Community Services, including HR Specialist and Director of Human Resources. Prior to this, Val served as Executive Director at the North Carolina Pharmacist Recovery Network, overseeing addiction recovery support for pharmacy professionals. Val's earlier experience includes being Program Director for multiple substance abuse programs at East Coast Solutions/Port Health and holding various positions at the Walter B. Jones Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment Center, where clinical and administrative oversight was provided. Val holds a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Music from East Carolina University, as well as a Master of Public Administration from the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
