Krysten Wendell

Krysten Wendell has a diverse work experience in the education sector. Krysten currently holds the position of Vice President, Program Delivery & Learning at New Teacher Center since August 2022. Prior to this, they worked as the Senior Director of Internal Learning at the same organization from July 2021 to August 2022 and as the Senior Director of Program Solutions from July 2020 to June 2021.

Before joining New Teacher Center, Krysten held several roles at Achievement School District. Krysten served as the Achievement Schools Chief Academic Officer from June 2016 to June 2017, where they focused on staff development and management. Krysten also worked as the Achievement Schools Director of Curriculum and Instruction from July 2015 to May 2016, where they collaborated in designing and implementing teacher professional development and managed a team responsible for curriculum development and monitoring.

Krysten's work experience also includes serving as the Principal at East Chicago Lighthouse Charter School from May 2011 to June 2015. During their tenure, they achieved significant improvements in student achievement, including a high proficiency rating on the IREAD exam and increased performance on the ISTEP test.

Additionally, Krysten worked as the Director of Instruction at Lighthouse Academies from June 2008 to May 2011. Krysten played a key role in improving student achievement in ELA and Math on the ISTEP test.

Earlier in their career, Krysten served as a Founding/Lead Teacher at East Chicago Lighthouse Charter School from July 2006 to June 2008. Krysten was recognized as the Lighthouse Academies Teacher of the Year for the 2007-2008 school year and achieved significant gains in student achievement on ISTEP and NWEA assessments.

Krysten's work experience also includes working as a Corps Member Advisor at Teach For America Summer Institute in June and July 2006, where they supported and trained first-year teachers.

Krysten began their teaching career as a Third Grade Teacher at Joshua Butler Elementary School from July 2004 to June 2006, where they implemented a standardized test tutoring curriculum and facilitated a behavior data evaluation committee.

Overall, Krysten Wendell has shown extensive experience in program delivery, internal learning, curriculum development, staff development, and instructional leadership throughout their career in the education sector.

Krysten Wendell holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies from Rhodes College, which they obtained from 2000 to 2004. Subsequently, they pursued a Master of Arts degree in Public School Leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University, attending from 2010 to 2011. Krysten Wendell also possesses additional certifications including an Indiana K-8 Generalist Teaching License, which they acquired from the Indiana Department of Education in February 2014. Furthermore, they hold an Indiana Building Level Administrator License from the Indiana Department of Education, which they obtained in March 2018.
