Krysten Wendell has a diverse work experience in the education sector. Krysten currently holds the position of Vice President, Program Delivery & Learning at New Teacher Center since August 2022. Prior to this, they worked as the Senior Director of Internal Learning at the same organization from July 2021 to August 2022 and as the Senior Director of Program Solutions from July 2020 to June 2021.
Before joining New Teacher Center, Krysten held several roles at Achievement School District. Additionally, Krysten worked as the Director of Instruction at Lighthouse Academies from June 2008 to May 2011. Krysten played a key role in improving student achievement in ELA and Math on the ISTEP test.
Earlier in their career, Krysten served as a Founding/Lead Teacher at East Chicago Lighthouse Charter School from July 2006 to June 2008. Krysten was recognized as the Lighthouse Academies Teacher of the Year for the 2007-2008 school year and achieved significant gains in student achievement on ISTEP and NWEA assessments.
Krysten's work experience also includes working as a Corps Member Advisor at Teach For America Summer Institute in June and July 2006, where they supported and trained first-year teachers.
Krysten began their teaching career as a Third Grade Teacher at Joshua Butler Elementary School from July 2004 to June 2006, where they implemented a standardized test tutoring curriculum and facilitated a behavior data evaluation committee.
