Zakia Brown

Director, Programs and Partnerships at New Teacher Center

Zakia Brown has a diverse work experience in the education field. Zakia currently works at the New Teacher Center as the Director of Programs and Partnerships. Prior to this, they served as an ELA Elementary Specialist at the Maryland State Department of Education from February 2020 to March 2022. In addition, Zakia worked at Baltimore City Public Schools, where they held various roles including Blueprint Literacy Coach from July 2019 to February 2020, Literacy Coach from July 2017 to July 2019, and Teacher from August 2010 to June 2017. Zakia also worked at TNTP as a Field Manager from May 2018 to August 2018 and as a Teacher Development Coach from May 2015 to August 2017.

Zakia Brown has an extensive education history. Zakia started by earning their high school diploma from Dr. Charles E. Brimm Medical Arts High School in 2005. Following that, they attended Hampton University from 2005 to 2009, where they obtained their Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. In 2010, Zakia participated in the Baltimore City Teaching Residency, focusing on elementary certification. Zakia'seducation journey continued as they pursued a Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership from Loyola University Maryland, completing it in 2019.
