Edward Suryawinata began their work experience in 2010 as an Undergraduate Engineer for the Rail Capacity Enhancement Project at Rio Tinto Iron Ore. Edward provided support to the communications and signalling design teams during the project implementation phase.
In 2012, they joined Rio Tinto as a Graduate Engineer in the Project Services department, where they worked on expansion projects for Rio Tinto Iron Ore. Edward conducted benchmarking exercises and reviewed unit prices in the framework agreements.
Edward then worked as a Graduate Project Engineer for the Project Engineering East Pilbara team at Rio Tinto, where they managed contractors and oversaw piping and earthworks on-site. Edward also rectified the design of two new large-size water truck filling stations.
As a Graduate Project Engineer for the Silvergrass East Mine Project, they assisted the project manager in developing project management tools, including cross-project guidelines, options selection for project delivery models, and LEAN Six Sigma metrics.
Edward then served as a Graduate Electrical Engineer for the Yandi Sustaining Project, providing support to the electrical design team during the early implementation phase. Edward performed project spares budget planning, technical tender evaluation of HV cables, and various engineering activities.
Edward continued to progress, becoming a Systems Engineer for the AutoHaul Project, where they delivered enabling systems for the autonomous rail project. This included system data collection and issue analyses, Unix-based programming, witness and coordination of lab and site test regimes, and development and review of system documentations.
In 2015, they transitioned to the role of Control System Engineer for the Engineering and Asset Management team at Rio Tinto. Their responsibilities included alarm, incident, and compliance analysis; database queries and business intelligence development; control system support; safety PLC support; and contribution to various safety projects.
From 2017 to 2018, Edward held the position of Control System Engineer for Asset Management and Engineering Services at Rio Tinto. Here, they managed control system improvement projects, provided level 2 support, and specialized in lab robot and tug boat winch control.
Most recently, in 2018, Edward joined New York Air Brake as a Senior System Engineer. Their role involved developing and maintaining systems and tools for rail automation software, testing systems, and gathering customer requirements for rail automation system design.
Edward Suryawinata pursued their education at The University of Western Australia from 2008 to 2011. During this time, they obtained a Bachelor of Engineering (BE) with Honours in the field of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
In addition to their degree, Edward obtained certifications in PRINCE2 Foundation and Practitioner from AXELOS Global Best Practice in October 2017, and as a Functional Safety Engineer from TÜV Rheinland Group in October 2015.
