Deborah Y. Cohn is a tenured professor of marketing at New York Tech and interim dean of the university's School of Management. She's a member of the School's Impact committee, director of its Professional Enrichment (PE) Platform, and has chaired its personnel committee. Before joining the university in 2009, she spent 12 years in academia at various business schools in the U.S.
A dynamic, well-respected educator, Cohn engages students and colleagues in numerous ways. For example, she organizes and coordinates more than 100 PE seminars annually by featuring industry professionals, adjuncts, advisory board members, and alumni in support of student learning. She also has secured several high-quality, widely recognized peer-reviewed journal articles, for example in Journal of Consumer Satisfaction, Dissatisfaction and Complaining Behavior, Journal of Business Research, and International Journal of Internet Marketing and Advertising. She collaborates with researchers at many universities and presents at academic conferences and workshops around the world.
Cohn has secured several grants with colleagues including a Fulbright-Hays Program Grant Academia and Society – Collaboration Across Borders: A Virtual Exchange Program, funded by the U.S. Department of State and U.S. Consulate of São Paulo, Brazil (2020), and International Study of Israel and the U.S. of Digital Social Media in the Workplace Mallah Family Foundation grant (2019). She completed several approved industry and service-learning projects with evidenced impact, working with Casa de Spin Paint Parlor and Clay Art Workshop, both on Long Island. Honors include the New York Tech Presidential Award for Student Engagement, Outstanding Contribution in Reviewing from Elsevier Journal of Business Research, and the Commitment to Marketing Award from Mu Kappa Tau – National Marketing Honor Society.
To help retain and engage students, Cohn supports dialogue and sharing of knowledge and experience on global business issues by organizing Faculty-Student Engagement Lunches, including sessions on innovation in retail, branding strategies, and enlisting employees as social media brand ambassadors. She works closely with the university's admissions office to help improve enrollment and diversity and sits on the committee to help recreate the university's core requirements.
Cohn volunteers with Footsteps, Marketing Edge, and the Queens Career Connect Central Queens YM&YWHA, among other organizations.
Cohn earned her Ph.D. in marketing from City University of New York and an M.B.A. from New York Tech. Her degrees in marketing, business, and interdisciplinary studies of religion underlie her support for strong and diverse educational experiences that strengthen academic programs.
